Tricker Meet World
Let’s get into it…
The world has been sleeping on this sport for some time now, and a fellow JNM athlete can’t wait to wake it up! A very ambitious tricker with a can-do attitude and his webster are looking to take on the world, what better story to flourish in a world of much needed positivity. Bringing that South Carolina charm… Adam take it away.
Introduce Yourself!
What up gang? I’m Adam! I’m a 27 year old Pro Tricker from Irmo, South Carolina and the owner of ‘Shapes of Tricking’. I’ve traveled all around North America and some places overseas the past 11 years of this journey but I’m back based in my hometown. I’ve been into creating and editing content since 2008 and I’ve been coaching tricking, parkour/ free-running, cheer, tumbling and gymnastics since 2010 at Lake Murray Gymnastics. I love to travel and have done several tumble/ cheer and tricking tours over the years.
How do you keep motivated?
Motivation is an unreliable source of fuel I try not to lean on too heavily. I try to tap into it when it’s there but I focus more on maintaining a disciplined lifestyle full of habits that proactively move me towards my goals.
Who is your inspiration?
I’m inspired by so many different people but over the years I’ve been more and more inspired by who I imagine my future self to be. Vividly and actively depicting who I’m manifesting inspires me to grow and become that man.
What do you do when you’re not training or making content for IG?
When I’m not cooking up some Tricking concepts with my company, Shapes, or incorporating my involvement as a special guest at events I’m typically home selling solar panels or coaching. I’ve been working for almost 5 years now with my local community in order to accelerate our transition into the inevitable future of renewable energy. Besides that you can find me feeding the future of movement through coaching at my gym or online.
What is your favorite Tricking move?
This question is always so fun because it constantly changes for me! The Webster is a trick that’s near and dear to my heart but currently my favorite trick to train is the log-roll. Sounds silly but incorporating this skill in tricking combos is so unique because most tricks are experienced high up and the log-roll is as low as you can get to the floor and creates a different visual to a combo.
What are your career aspirations?
I have A TON! I can’t announce certain things but it definitely involves having a personal studio and getting into real estate for trickers. I’m working on several things with Shapes including an innovative community driven battle format, some tangible literature and more opportunities for up and coming athletes.
Your favorite piece of Jed North clothing?
THE JEANS! I’ve always wanted style with versatility and the JN jeans look dank and I can full on session in them as well! Perfect for the type of dynamic modeling I normally do!
What piece of advice would you give to young athletes wanting to follow in your footsteps?
I have endless advice for young athletes! First thing, GET STARTED! So many people are neutralized by indecision. Don’t stress about picking the right direction because you won’t know until after you’ve tried and discovered an avenue of success or failure. You’ll waste more time waiting for the right decision rather than just picking one and letting the process of elimination take its course.
Also, take FULL responsibility for who you are and where you’re at. If you blame anything or anyone, other than yourself, you lose control and become a result of your circumstances. If you maintain the ability to respond and take responsibility for everything, you’re more in control of yourself and what happens around you.
Lets’ get personal!
Who is your favorite superhero and why?
This is a hard one I haven’t thought enough about. I’d like to say Night Crawler from X-men because if I could have any power it would 100% be teleportation.
Going out or staying in?
Depends on the day and the group. I’m an extrovert and I love being around people, but I’m most productive when I’m left alone or working with a small group. But I’m never scared to get up and go on an adventure so, more often than not, I’m going out, final answer! Haha!
What music do you listen to? Favorite artist? Song?
I’ve learned recently that very few people absorb music the way I do. I have dozens of diverse playlists on YouTube I’ve been building for several years now. I spend most of my listening time finding what’s dropped most recently. I’m mostly into rap, edm and just quality music. I’ve been jamming to Jack Harlow mostly recently but I also like: The Kid LAROI, Billie Eilish, Lil Wayne, DaBaby, Tory Lanez, Sam Smith, D Smoke, Hippie Sabotage, Russ, Juice WRLD (rip), Flume, G-Space, Cordae, Kevin Gates, Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, YUNG Pinch, it literally doesn’t stop haha! Most of my YouTube playlists are public so go peep my jams!
Do you like travelling? If you do, where do you want to go next?
I love it!!! I honestly just want to reconnect with the Tricking community. If I could choose, I’d want NEO 8 to happen which is the biggest Tricking Gathering in America normally hosted in Brunswick, OH and was supposed to be held in Detroit last year. Beyond the typical gatherings I’m used to attending I really want to visit Thailand, the Philippines, Japan and China. I want to travel the world but I’d be happy to start with those 4 locations!
Thanks so much for taking the time to learn a bit more about me and my involvement in all of these different communities! I love helping others and cultivating positive paths for all of us to travel down! For those that have been apart of my journey for over a decade to those that have just joined, I truly appreciate you all! Life is an amazing adventure and I’m excited to share it with all of you! Much love! Shtay woke!
